Fano and Pesaro put the coast within easy reach, while further south the Conero coastline around Numana and Sirolo becomes more dramatic.

Renaissance Urbino, Gradara, Mondavio and the smaller villages give the area much of its character, alongside Roman history and long local traditions.

Truffles, Bianchello del Metauro, Sangiovese, olive oil, seafood and simple country cooking are part of everyday life rather than a staged attraction.

The Gola del Furlo, Monte Catria and the inland roads make Le Marche as useful for walking and cycling as it is for long lunches and beach days.

The Furlo Gorge is one of the most striking inland landscapes in northern Le Marche, where the Candigliano River cuts through steep limestone walls. It is an easy contrast to the coast and hill towns, with walking routes, viewpoints and the historic road through the gorge.
